Hi, I'm Angee and the founder of Motivate to Move physical therapy and wellness. I am a physical therapist and have been practicing therapy for 23 years. I have spent the last 15 years treating people with movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease. If I have learned one thing it's that people with Parkinson's can get better! I have seen first hand the dramatic change that can happen when someone who has PD exercises regularly, is medicated optimally, and non-motor symptoms are under control.
I graduated from Oakland University in 1997 with a masters degree in Physical Therapy. I have spent the majority of my career working with people who have neurological conditions. I am certified in Parkinson specific exercise programs such as PWR! and LSVT BIG. I have also had the pleasure of volunteering at a Parkinson’s Wellness retreat sponsored by the Parkinson Wellness Recovery program. This is a retreat that is offered once a year in Scottsdale, Arizona and is a week long retreat for people with Parkinson’s disease and their care partner. For more information about this retreat visit their website at www.pwr4life.org. I am also a certified RSB (rock steady boxing) coach and am looking forward to growing this program in the Genesee county area. In addition, I recently became an ambassador for the Davis Phinney Foundation. This is an awesome organization that helps people living with Parkinson’s Disease live well everyday. For more information please visit www.davisphinneyfoundation.org.
I enjoy staying active in the Parkinson community and have spoken at many support groups and health centers about the importance of exercise for someone who has PD. In the fall of 2017 I attended the ATTP (allied team training for Parkinson's) conference. This conference was sponsored by The National Parkinson's Foundation as well as the Movement Disorder Society. The conference focused on the importance of having an interdisciplinary team in order to optimize care for someone with PD.
In my free time I love spending time with my family and enjoying the great outdoors. I have been married for 18 years to my husband Matt and we have three boys, Ryan (17), Dylan (15) and Keynan (9). They keep me busy but there is never a dull moment!
